In its endeavour to create awareness against drug abuse, DPS Budgam conducted a special programme wherein the ill impacts of drugs were highlighted. The motive of organising such as event was to create more awareness against the menace of drug abuse that has become a leading issue in the present era.
Dr G H Hassan (sleep specialist), Dr Yasir Rather(Associate Prof Psychiatry), Dr Sameer (lecturer in Psychiatry) all from, Govt. Medical College(GMC) were the chief guests. The Pro VC Madam Mumtaz-ul-Nisa Soz and the Principal, Mr Mehfooz Aslam also graced the occasion. On this occasion, a short movie, PPT made by the students was depicted. Also, skits, dance, group songs highlighting the loss of Mental, Physiological And Academic health were presented. The team of experts explained addiction at length and talked of various types of drugs and their misuse. They further told the school authorities to observe the behavioural changes among students more keenly for substance abuse.
“Easy availability of drugs is the prime most reason for drug abuse”, they said. They further insisted that “Drug Education” should be a regular affair so that all the students (youth) get to know about it.
In the end, an interactive session was also conducted wherein different questions were raised by the students and the experts replied to their satisfaction. Later on, counselling and treatment were considered to be the best options for rehabilitation strategy. They further added that both parents and teachers have a great role to perform. Spending quality time with children to abridge the gap can do wonders. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal.
